2016 Sattiraju & Tharney, LLP Employment Law Scholarship Winner Announcement

Last year we started the 2016 Sattiraju & Tharney, LLP Employment Law Scholarship. Our law firm is dedicated to investing in the next generation of lawyers, as we want to ensure hard-working people get the compensation they need and deserve. All law school students were encouraged to apply to our scholarship, but we gave special consideration to candidates who had decided to specialize in employment law or who were the immediate relative of a transport/truck driver that had been classified as an independent contractor.

We received over 50 applications from exemplary students all over the country. We reviewed all of the applications thoroughly and the selection process was extremely difficult. After hours of review and deliberation, we were finally able to select a winner.

We are pleased to announce the winner of the 2016 Sattiraju & Tharney, LLP Employment Law Scholarship is Taneska Jones!

Taneska

Taneska will receive a $1,000 scholarship award, which will be paid directly to her university.

Taneska is a third-year student at the University of Houston Law Center where she is a member of the Moot Court team and Journal for Consumer and Commercial Law, and serves as a Student Mediator with the law center’s Mediation Clinic. Prior to law school, Taneska was alitigation paralegal clerk at a large international firm in Houston. Taneska has held several internships throughout law school, including with the Honorable Frances H. Stacy of the U.S. Southern District of Texas, Texas Office of the Attorney General, University of Houston’s Office of the General Counsel, and with two boutique law firms focused on employment law and personal injury. Taneska plans to practice labor and employment law and would be honored to work as a judicial law clerk at some point in her career. Taneska’s goal is to be involved with pro bono legal services and to promote diversity and mentorship programs as a practicing attorney. Taneska hails from the small town of Shepherd, Texas and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas at Dallas with a bachelor’s in Business Administration.
